Ribbon Cake Design Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 ¼ cups unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- Gel food coloring (various colors of your choice)
- Buttercream frosting or cream cheese frosting for decorating
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
- Divide the batter evenly into separate bowls, depending on how many colors you want to use for your ribbons. Add a few drops of gel food coloring to each bowl and mix until the desired color is achieved.
- Spoon the colored batters into separate piping bags or zip-top bags fitted with small round tips. If you don’t have tips, you can simply snip off a small corner of the bags.
- Starting from the center of one of the prepared cake pans, pipe concentric circles of different colored batter. Repeat with the second pan.
- Once you have piped the batter, gently tap the pans on the counter to help the batter settle and remove any air bubbles.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, you can decorate them with buttercream frosting or cream cheese frosting. You can frost the entire cake or just the top and sides, leaving the ribbon pattern exposed.
Slice and serve the ribbon cake, enjoying the beautiful colors and flavors!
